Indy Artist (UllNevaNo) gives his opinion on what hip hop is and his inspirations behind his music

This is an interview I did with Indy artist UllNevaNo. If you don’t know about him, then you should get to know about him. I have a lot of interest in him and the inspiration behind his music. I was glad I got a chance to not only sit and talk with a long time friend, but also get the scoop on his latest collabs and future projects...Read more and Check it out below…
Sounds FoReal: Tell us where you’re representing today UllNevaNo

Ullnevano: What's going on, on this cold, cold Baltimore day I'm reppin’ myself honesty, all the blue collar workers and of course my Action Figures Crew...

Sounds FoReal: Let’s get some people up to speed for those who don’t know you. Who is Ullnevano?

Ullnevano: “In the words of Tiron they better Ketchup(catch up), lol well UllNevaNo is just a huge hip hop head junkie/emcee who does a lot of rapping fights crime on his days off and just tries to create the best possible music possible I reside in Baltimore, Maryland was raised as an army brat but consider southern Cali my 2nd home, I'm part of a dynamic crew called ‘Action Figures’ which consists of myself, producer Knowledge, Dj Minus Nine, J-Berd and 1-Ton.”

Sounds FoReal: How old were you when you got into rapping and what inspired you?

UllNevaNo: “I started getting into rap/hip hop at the age of 11ish and then just started dabbling from there, you know when you’re young you really don't know better about music so you just go and listen to what's the in thing, so as the years came a long I started experiencing with hip hop and started surrounding myself with likeminded individuals that just enjoyed the culture of hip hop music. I can remember sneaking cassettes into my walkman just to get that fix of hip hop music lol. What inspired me was listening to Canibus and Big L they were all about lyricism and that's what I try to bring to the table with my music.”

Sounds FoReal: Where did the name UllNevaNo come from and what does it symbolize?

UllNevaNo: “The story is very interesting how the name "UllNevaNo"(You'll Never Know) came about. While I was attending high school in southern California I went by "Verb" cause I was constantly battling heads during my lunch period, but a friend of mine who was in the army named "Mischief" gave me the name and thought I should run with the idea of just being called that, its unorthodox in its own way and I thought it would be dope and clever. The reactions I receive from people when I tell them my name is priceless and that's sort of falls down the line of why I ran with that name so basically whatever you want to call me, you be the judge.”

Sounds FoReal: You have a color brown mix tape out already which is dope as ever, tell us some things we have to look forward to on your upcoming mix tape “the Color Brown Mix tape part 2”…

UllNevaNo: “Thank you I really do appreciate that, ‘Color Brown Part 2’ is not a sequel to the first volume which I'm rhyming over Landover Maryland, low budget producer "Kev Brown" this time I'm getting busy over Mello Music Producer "Apollo Brown" he's from Detroit as well, the difference from this project from the last is its more rhymes and lyricism a lot more conceptual topics and I have a lot more features on this project, which in all honesty I'm not a big fan of collabs but I do recognize dope talent when I hear it and try my best to reach out, "color brown part 2" is presented by mixbullies.com and this blog from Inland Empire California called "Bricktoyaface.com shouts to Noa James, the release date is 1-1-12.”

Sounds FoReal: What are some other future projects coming out that our listener’s have to look forward to? I heard your doing a v-day special?

UllNevaNo: “In all honesty I've never recorded and wrote this much ever in my career so I'm constantly staying busy with projects and just rhyming. I'm working this project with producer Eight Sense entitled ‘Not Enough Hours In A Day’ which I have to go back to the studio and re-record cause I was very sick when I recorded it the first time. As you mentioned I'm dropping a Valentines Day themed EP called "I'm Thru With Love" hitting up SXSW next year hopefully to perform but mainly just to network. People can check me out at http://www.ullnevanohiphop/.com for updates my twitter etc, I don't have any shows lined up but hopefully next year things will start to pick up. It usually does happen, also make sure you check out my latest project out with producer ‘Logic Marselis’ called Instant Messengers at instantmessengers.bandcamp.com

Sounds FoReal: What kind of message do you want your fans to receive about you and your music?

UllNevaNo: “The message I'm trying to send to people is just honesty and lyricism. Like I wanna let the people know that image is not everything and that it’s okay to rhyme and have something important to say. Like I don't really care what clothes or sneakers you have on at the end of the day. Can you rhyme is all I'm concerned with.”

Sounds FoReal: When at a point in your career do you feel you can say “I am successful; I have made it to where I want to be”?

UllNevaNo: “. I can say when I'm able to live comfortable, like I wouldn't mind still having a 9-5 , and still be able to make music and tour etc, but I wouldn't mind helping my parents out without a problem, there's a borderline to how much success that I want without being considered super star status all that glamour I'm cool ya'll can keep that lol.”

Sounds FoReal: There is a song on your Color brown mix tape called “fast enough”… That beat is too dope, who produced it and what gave you the inspiration behind that song?

UllNevaNo: “That's a Kev Brown beat and the original instrumental is called "work in progress" from his "I do what I do" album which is an excellent album by the way. The inspiration to that jam came from I wrote that like right around thanksgiving and black Friday was going on and I was mainly just venting out how we as people don't have any patience for things any more like the world and technology has made us as individuals these speed demon gremlins lol who just aren't patient anymore everything is fast, fast food, fast wi-fi, emails twitter feeds, facebook etc.”

Sounds FoReal: Who are some of the people that contributed to this new project you have coming up with the Color Brown Mix tape Part 2 and the v-day project?

UllNevaNo: “I have some dope features on the "Color Brown Part 2" like Ahhzel from late bloomers, he's from LA. Rome Cee, Math, E-Major, Tay Black, Logic Marselis, and Stephen Hicks and I really wanted the homie J-Berd to be on the project but due to finances and poor timing it didn't happen but we have some joints in the works, the Valentines day EP is very special to me cause I always wanted to drop a themed project on a holiday its half original and half jacking for beats but all touching on my perspective on "Love". Producers contributing are Knowledge, Ryner and Logic Marselis so it should be an interesting project.”

Sounds FoReal: When can our viewers expect to hear a release date on these projects?

UllNevaNo: “The Color Brown Part is finished and its being mixed by a dope dj named Red One, and the release is Jan 1st 2012, hopefully the world doesn't end so cats can download it lol. And after that the Valentines day is up next and I'm posting it on every females facebook wall hahahahaha.”

Sounds FoReal: How can our fans go about listening to more of your music?

UllNevaNo: “They can reach me on twitter @ullnevanohiphop and also check out the website www.ullnevanohiphop.com”

Sounds FoReal: What is hip hop to you? What makes you hip-hop?

UllNevaNo: “Hip Hop Is the culture of Beats, Rhymes and Life word to Tribe, but I feel like I live it 24/7 I’m a fan of hip hop 1st and foremost and I'm a student of the game, and that's what makes me hip hop, and I feel as though there needs to be more fun in hip hop especially the way this economy is and its very, very important to me I think about it on a daily, I love it to death and again I'm a fan first....peace”

I can definitely say I'm looking forward to Color Brown Mixtape 2 especially that v-day special. To listen/download UllNevaNo's Color brown mix tape for free, click on the link below.
