Rasheen "RaRa Soul" Devine is an ARTIST (let's get that straight). He represents the language of what it means to speak "cogently. I came across the young man when a FaceBook friend of mine posted a video titled "She Can't Find Her Keys". A very playful yet undeniably intelligent spoken words, the video had me thinking "what if?". Several thoughts ran through my mind on how his play on words took me through a world wind of different emotions but yet I couldn't stop watching because I wanted to know how it will end. I took the time out to ask RaRa Soul some questions and his answers intrigued me even more to find out who he really is. With the release of his new album, "Poetry & Chill Music", RaRa Soul found some time link up and I thank him for his time. I only hope to hear more from this young man. Check out the partial interview below.
RaRa is a universal being originally from Venus, raised on Mars, and now resides on Planet Earth. He decided to start writing light years ago before he was born. As he descended upon earth, he ascended into an earthly temple known as the Male Human Body. He chose to be a male because he wanted an outy, and it just seemed more feasible to have that when the Female softy beings with the innies were so tantricly attractive. It just fitted his character. His Ethnicity: Black Berry Complexion of Intellectual African Descendents. Boo-Yah!!!!
He wrote his first lyrical scripture on his mother's kitchen wall at the human age of 2. That’s when he was able to get his hand on his first permanent marker. It spelled outhlkafguf. That’s baby language for those who don't know, only babies can decode it with permanent markers themselves. It was very memorable.
In the 5th grade level, he wrote his first poem. It was inspired by the twelve white girlfriends that he dated all at once. He then started writing lyrics and raps for his first love that was a black girl who told him that they go together now. He had no choice, she was a ride or die sassy chick, and he liked that. He’s still friends with the white girls up until this day.
What was your inspiration for your new album "Poetry & Chill Music"
The inspiration for my album started in 2008. I was writing raps for a while, and decided to improve my lyrics through the use of poetry and spoken word. That’s when I started attending more poetry venues, and decided to be more smooth and laid back with my lyrics. With this new improved style of flow, I decided to name this album “Poetry & Chill Music.” Its such a laid back album. Poetry & Chill Music shows the side of me thathas grown and is more articulate.
The title audaciously was inspired by the Lil Boosie & Lil Weebie album “Gangsta Musik.” No correlation, but the title did spark the idea for my albums title.
What is the message or content you are wanting to get out to people with your words?
The message that I am getting out to the people is one of enjoyment, self-inspiration, and creativeness. Being free to do whatever you want, provoking thought, and living life with love.
The first song I heard by you was "Monogamy". What made you write a piece called "Monogamy"?
What inspired Monogamy. Honestly, I'm a serial Monogamous. I tend to have sex with one woman for a long period of time. I look at it like exploring new lands. The female’s body is so intriguing that it can take a lifetime to explore, not only her body, but her mind as well. Therefore, I felt inspired to write a song about monogamy, because its something that I’m knowledgeable about.
